How to play Reversi?

Reversi (also known as "Othello" in the world) is a strategy classic where you change color by squeezing your opponent's pieces between your own pieces, which is easy to learn but takes years to master. Teaches corner control and positioning strategy.

  1. You start with 2 red and 2 blue stones placed diagonally in the middle of the board.
  2. During your turn, when you place a piece on an empty square, you must squeeze one or more of your opponent's pieces between your own pieces on a straight line.
  3. All the opponent's pieces you squeeze immediately return to your own color.
  4. If you have no valid moves, the opponent's turn automatically passes.
  5. The game ends when neither side has any moves left; The one with the most pieces on the board wins.

Reversi strategy tips

  • Corners can never be turned; The side that takes the corner usually wins the game.
  • Squares right next to corners (especially diagonal "X squares") can gift the opponent a corner; Avoid them in the early game.
  • It is important not to turn too many pieces at the beginning of the game, but to reduce the opponent's move options.

Reversi history

Reversi is a tile turning game that emerged in England in the 1880s. It became popular again in Japan in the 1970s under the name "Othello" with slightly changed rules and turned into a mental sport for which world championships were held.
